January 11, 1793: President George Washington gathers an illustrious group of Founding Fathers – including future presidents John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and James Monroe – to witness a marvelous feat. The French inventor brought a hot air balloon across the Atlantic. On January 11th, Blanchard flew from Philadelphia to Deptford, New Jersey. The day marked the first balloon flight in the Americas.
